Every exchange student at UQAM must be covered by medical insurance. There are only two accepted forms of coverage: Every exchange student at UQAM must be covered by medical insurance. There are only two accepted forms of coverage :
1. Coverage by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ)The Quebec government has signed insurance agreements with Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal and Sweden. These agreements entitle students with official proof that they are entitled to social security in their home country, to an exemption from health insurance costs after demonstrating to the University administration that they are covered by the RAMQ.
Even if you are exempt, you will be billed but you can have the charges cancelled after your arrival in Quebec.
2. Coverage by the Desjardins Sécurité Financière (DSF) compulsory group health insurance planAs UQAM does not recognize medical insurance purchased abroad, the student will be billed at registration for participation in the DSF compulsory group health insurance. For the year 2011-2012, the fee is $ 308 per trimester.
Please note that an exchange student must be enrolled in classes to be eligible for the compulsory group insurance plan. The cancellation of courses automatically cancels that medical coverage.
